One of the things I asked for, for Christmas was a garlic press. I expected to get the traditional kind where you put the garlic in one bit and then squeeze the two handles together and out of some little holes come garlic.
I should have known my Mum would go for something more modern. She seems to have almost all the latest gadgets:
This works by rocking the press over the clove of garlic. It was quite effective and the garlic was nicely minced. Much better than what I would manage with my knife. It also stores quite nicely as it is quite flat. I used a flat board with the garlic press – the photo is with a curved board but only because my usual vegetable chopping board is green and the press wasn’t showing up very well.
I had asked for a garlic press as I have been using quite a bit of minced garlic in a jar but fresh is better. My only complaint with this is that it was quite fiddly to wash up. I will use this again but the minced garlic does give me more flexibility when a recipe has a clove of garlic and so when I reduce the recipe I only put in half a clove. Much easier with the minced garlic in a jar.
