People look at me oddly when I say I enjoy getting lunch at the hospital across the road from the office. But we only have two places in walking distance that offer a reasonable selection for lunch. The first is a cafe that has good food and coffee but is overpriced and the service is just dreadful. By the time they toast a sandwich for me, my lunch hour is heading south. Which is a shame because the setting is quite good and it is convenient.
So in Summer I often head to the small private hospital nearby. The food is quite good and they have a nice selection. Plus they make a reasonable cup of coffee. But what I particularly like about this place is where I then eat lunch. There is a beautiful little courtyard garden that is very peaceful, has lovely shade and at certain times of the year flowers. It is definitely a fair weather venue as the inside bit is a not very nice concrete floored room. But in summer the garden is just lovely. There are often small groups having a chat and I can sit peacefully and read my book without feeling out of place. This is the view from my table today:
I had a lovely lunch today of lasagna:
Not quite as low calorie as I normally try and do for lunch but I knew I was having a low calorie dinner and this got me through to dinner without needing a snack. It is probably, well definitely, healthier than a snack was likely to be.
